Vintage Quilt

A couple months ago, I helped my friend put some borders on a vintage polyester quilt top her grandmother made years ago. She sent it off to a quilter and brought it back to me to bind. I have to admit that this is the first quilt I've bound all by myself. Usually, I hand them off to my mom to finish! It felt really good to finally learn how to do it and get a lot of practice. I used this tutorial for a slick, quick, invisible stitch. My binding strips were 2 inches wide, cut on the bias.

New Projects

Well, I've been feeling the itch to start some new projects this week, so I pulled out some charm packs of April Cornell's Prayer Flag line that I've had in the closet for a year. These fabrics are beautiful. I think I could stare at them all day long. I know I want some applique on this one to spruce it up a bit, but I haven't come up with what yet.

I also decided to join the houndstooth craze and start a pink and black houndstooth quilt inspired mostly by Vanessa's pattern found here. Since I like figuring things out for myself, I made up my own measurements and methods for putting it together after looking at pictures for awhile. I think it's really fun and, surprisingly, it was quite easy to assemble. My mom thinks it needs a Scottie dog appliqued on it. So cute, right?

Basket Weave Baby Quilt

It's done and in the shop! I decided to use the cute stripe as a bias binding, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. This is actually a very simple pattern, but I love that it doesn't look like squares.

Ginger Belle

Here's another beautiful quilt my mom-in-law recently finished. I had absolutely no part in this one, but I still feel like I need to show it off a little. I know this one took hours and hours and hours...and it looks gorgeous on her bed!
